Lapis Sun Cross Medallion

Before it was adopted by European Christian cultures, the sun cross shape was used by prehistoric and Bronze Age artisans as a symbol of the cyclical nature of life, the interconnectedness of all things, and the sun as a unifying life force.

Lapis lazuli is one of my favorite stones to work with. Prized since antiquity for its intense color, lapis was prevalent in ancient Egypt, used for amulets and ornaments including King Tut’s famous funeral mask. Lapis is speckled with pyrite inclusions that look like gold, which I especially love. Cleopatra is said to have used ground up lapis for eye shadow.

I think of the collections in my line as a spectrum of light, and the Goddess Collection is full sun, with glowing 22k gold and a palette of bright blue skies and deep blue seas. Lapis is a cornerstone of that.

Strong and beautiful in its own, this medallion is also great to pair with others. I often wear mine on the same chain as a medallion of my grandmother’s that’s a special keepsake.
